Job description

Daudkandi-Gwalmari-Srirayarchar (Comilla)-Matlab North (Chengarchar) District Highway Upgradation Project” is an important project from geographical and economic point of view. The project consists of important district highways/highways under Comilla Road Division. The road starts at Daudkandi on the Comilla-Chittagong National Highway (N-1) and ends at Chengarchar of Matlab Uttar Upazila. The said road was handed over from Zilla Parishad to Roads and Highways Department in 1996. In the fiscal year 2002-2003, the repair and development of the said road was done through the District Road Development Project under SOAZ. Moreover, last surfacing work has been done under PMP (Major-Road) in FY 2015-2016 with a width of 3.70 meters in some parts of the road. The total length of the road is 22.20 km including 1.2 km of new road for streamlining under the project. Dhaka-Chittagong highway (N-1) starts from the place called Daudkandi and connects with Chandpur district headquarters namely Chandpur, Lakshmipur. The present road is 3.70 m wide. Many people travel to different parts of the country including the district cities of Chandpur, Lakshmipur at a short distance and at a low cost on this road. If the road is developed, the road distance from Dhaka to Chandpur will be reduced by 72.00 km. This road is connected to the Meghna Dhanagoda river embankment. As a result, people and goods travel to different parts of the country including the river port city of Barisal through about 16 launch ghats located on the banks of the river. Due to the construction of Matlab Bridge and Chandpur Road being 5.50 meters from Matbal Bridge, vehicles going to Chandpur and Lakshmipur from Dhaka ply on that road. The traffic on the road has increased tremendously. Therefore, due to less width of the existing road compared to the requirement, the vehicles coming from the opposite direction are at risk and often get into accidents. The said road is playing a supportive role in the development activities of the government along with the improvement of socio-economic conditions in this area. The agricultural products produced in these upazilas are sent to different regions of the country including Dhaka to satisfy the local demand. Development of agro-based industry in the region is hampered due to poor road infrastructure.
